Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has unveiled new immigration pilot programs aimed at caregivers. Unlike previous requirements, these programs will grant home care workers PERMANENT RESIDENCE upon their arrival in Canada, eliminating the need for prior work experience in the country. Additionally, the programs will allow caregivers to work with organisations that provide temporary or part-time care for semi-independent individuals or those recovering from injury or illness, which was not permitted under existing programs.

Eligibility criteria for the new pilots include achieving a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark level 4 (down from level 5), holding the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma (previously a post-secondary credential was required), possessing recent and relevant work experience, and securing a full-time home care job offer.

The implementation timeline for these pilots is yet to be announced, but further details on eligibility and application processes will be provided before their launch. This announcement follows the conclusion of the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot on June 17, 2024, as the government aims to establish permanent caregiver pilot programs.
